How long will it take my child to learn to read and spell?

This varies with each child. It’s possible to do the entire course over one year, or several years. Some students only need a couple of months to catch up to class level. Your tutor will be able to advise you on this.

My child has dyslexia. Will SoR work for them?

Students with dyslexia, or any other kind of learning difficulty, respond well to the program.

Will SoR work for adults with reading difficulties?

Yes. Sounds of Reading works quickly with adults who have struggled with reading and writing.

Can you quantify my child’s progress?

Yes. All students are tested on commencement of the program, using a standardised reading and spelling test. They are reassessed on completion of the program, and can also be tested at any point in between.

How do I access Skype?

Skype is a computer program that is free to download. You then require a set of headphones and Broadband internet connection. Purchase the books by mail and Skype lessons go ahead the same as face-to-face lessons.

What qualifications do I need to become a Sounds of Reading teacher?

A university degree in teaching is desirable though related life experience may be acceptable. Further training in SoR is a requirement.
